A memo from Matthew

Whenever a board game claims to bring the fun of a popular video game to tabletop form, a perfectly reasonable question to ask is "why not just play the video game?" I believe that if a board game aims to simply simulate an experience that is already attainable, while it may invoke a pleasant feeling of nostalgia, it will inevitably lose its lustrous sheen and eventually be forgotten.  


COTA does not aim to simulate games in the MOBA genre, but rather looks to capture their essence, and distill them into an easy to consume, card based format.  COTA will focus on the tactical aspects of the "laning" phase of MOBA games, a tactical duel pitting your Ascended hero against the opponent's, in the midst of a maneuverable battle line. 


COTA will force you to make critical tradeoffs, between pummeling the enemy hero and weakening the enemy lines, between farming glorious items and committing to a fight. COTA merges the tactics of a tabletop miniatures game with the strategic character building of a role playing game, and manages to do so in a compact card game form.
